Fo Guang Shan Monastery is the largest Mahayana Buddhist temple in Taiwan, located north of Kaohsiung City. This is not just an ordinary temple but a hub for cultural arts and Buddhist learning.
The highlight of the monastery is the "Giant Bronze Buddha Statue," which stands on a high pedestal surrounded by eight pagodas lining both sides of the pathway, known as "The Great Path to Buddhahood." The serene, clean, and lush surroundings make it an ideal place for a leisurely stroll or meditation.
Inside, there is the Buddha Museum, which showcases sacred relics and exhibitions on the history of Buddhism across Asia. The museum also offers interactive activities for both children and adults.
In the evening, the pagodas and pathways are illuminated, creating a stunning and tranquil atmosphere. It’s perfect for those seeking peace and a deeper appreciation of Buddhist art.
Admission is free, and the monastery is open daily (except Tuesdays). It is easily accessible from Kaohsiung by bus or taxi, and visitors can spend anywhere from half a day to a full day exploring.
