Katori Shrine is the Ichinomiya (first shrine) of Shimousa Province.
It is the head shrine of the Katori Shrines, of which there are around 400 throughout the country, and has a history of around 2600 years.
The enshrined deity is Futsunushi no Okami,
who appears in the myth of the transfer of the country in the Nihon Shoki.
He traveled to Izumo together with Takemikazuchi no Okami, the enshrined deity of Kashima Shrine, to negotiate.
He has been worshipped as a war god, as Okuninushi no Okami submitted to him due to the military might of the two gods.
The jet-black shrine building has a dignified appearance and style that matches that!
I personally really like the appearance of this shrine building.
