The Atsuta shrine is one of the biggest in Japan and is an iconic representation of the past, with al much of the country destroyed in WW2 this is a testament to Japans cultural heritage.
The shrine is set in a wooded area and there are lots of paths to walk around, lots of toilets along with a museum, gift shop and small cafe. There are areas to wash your hands before entering the shrine, it’s advised to do so to show respect.
There are places to buy little plaques to leave prayers and wishes, but it can be quite busy so be prepared for queues.
The main shrine itself is a very sacred place so you need to be aware that it is an active shrine, Japanese people come everyday to pray and wish for luck. Remember to show respect and keep your voice down, don’t use flash on your camera and do not take any photos of people using the shrine for its intended purpose.
head to Atsuta Jingu Nishi station and follow the signs.
