Introducing Hokkaido's must-visit spots that feel like they're from overseas✍🏻
(All photos are from May 2023)
________________ This is Makomanai Takino Cemetery in Sapporo, Hokkaido
It's actually a very large cemetery, but the general public is also allowed to enter◎
(Please be considerate when viewing)
It's a cemetery, so of course there are graves, but I was surprised to see a large Buddha, Moai statues, and even Stonehenge on the premises...! _________________

"Head Buddha Hall"
Here you'll find a huge Buddha statue that's 13.5 meters tall 😳
It looks to be about the same size as the Great Buddha of Kamakura. Designed by the famous architect Tadao Ando, only the heads are visible from the outside 🌿 From around June, the whole area around the heads will turn lavender 🪻

"Moai Statues"
Lots of Moai statues 🗿🗿
When I came here last year, all the Moai were wearing big masks, but they had been removed safely, and I was happy ☺️
-
"Stonehenge"
Here you can find a place that looks just like Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the UK.
Stonehenge stands alone in the middle of a large cemetery. It makes me want to go to the real thing 🫶🏻
