The mysterious Shirakawa-go Gassho Village in Gifu Prefecture has well preserved the traditional Japanese architectural style, also known as Gassho-zukuri. Gassho Village is a gathering place of many Gassho-zukuri. It was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in December 1995 and is a must-see attraction in a lifetime.
When I first looked at it online, I found that Shirakawa-go Gassho Village has different beautiful scenery at any time of the year. This time I chose to visit in winter because I wanted to see the thick white snow piled on the roofs, and the melting snow dripping from the roofs. It is a unique winter beauty in Japan's secret place. Being in it is like being immersed in a snowy fairy tale world.
