Nezu Shrine, Tokyo

Located in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, "Nezu Shrine" is an ancient shrine boasting over 1900 years of history, yet it remains a hidden gem in the city center filled with tranquility and vibrant colors⛩️✨. The vivid vermilion Senbon Torii gates and the seasonal natural scenery captivate the hearts of visitors.

Especially famous is the "Azalea Festival" (mid-April to early May). About 3,000 azalea plants of approximately 100 varieties bloom in the shrine’s "Azalea Garden," creating a sea of flowers🌺🌸. The contrast with the vermilion torii gates is simply stunning, making it impossible not to raise your camera📸.

The main hall is a precious structure preserved from the Edo period, built by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi and designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan. The shrine building, adorned with luxurious carvings and gold leaf decorations, is a must-see for history enthusiasts🏛️.

Additionally, the grounds feature a pond, bridges, and moss-covered paths, allowing visitors to forget the city's hustle and bustle and enjoy a relaxing time. Omikuji (fortune slips) and goshuin (shrine stamps) are also popular, and the surrounding area is dotted with Japanese-style cafes and traditional sweet shops🍵.

Access is convenient, about a 5-minute walk from Nezu Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line🚶‍♀️. Be sure to stop by during your trip to the enjoyable Yanesen area.
