Beomeosa Temple: A Sanctuary Amidst Mountains, Streams, and Serenity

🧘♀️ First Impressions and Atmosphere

We arrived in the morning after taking Metro Line 1 to Beomeosa Station (Exit 5 or 7) and then transferring to Bus No. 90 for another 10–15 minutes. The atmosphere was tranquil and shaded, starting from the Iljumun (One-Pillar Gate) adorned with vibrant dancheong patterns, to the Cheonwangmun Gate guarded by imposing statues of the Four Heavenly Kings. It felt like stepping into another world.

🏞️ Exploring the Temple Grounds

Beyond the gates, we climbed several steps to reach the Daeungjeon Hall, the main building with a striking design from the Joseon Dynasty (1614). Surrounding the hall were a three-story stone pagoda, pavilions around the spacious courtyard, and wall paintings that vividly narrated the history of faith.

🌳 Nature Around the Temple

After exploring the buildings, we ventured into the forest behind the temple. It felt like a heartfelt hiking trail leading to hermitages scattered around the temple grounds. We even encountered beautiful purple wisteria trees, which are especially stunning in May.
